5/12/2018 196 miles - BryceCanyon NP - Kanab Loop (Utah)

At breakfast, the gentleman from Florida comes over to say hello and let us know they are headed to Bryce Canyon National Park, as we are, we say!

With the exception of the heat in Death Valley and heat and wind from Grand Canyon to Kanab, we have had good weather.

This morning we had chilly temps and rain.  Laura picked a good day to stay at our lodging.

We stop for more clothes several times.  We get a warm up at the Galaxy of Hatch juke joint in Hatch Utah.  Interesting.

The ride is a long, cold 98 miles but it is very worth while to see the sand stone hoo doos that this NP is famous for.  Ron hops off his bike to take some photos and says "Wow!"

The park entrance is a little further in.  We decide to leave my bike at the shuttle parking and I ride in behind Ron so we can use my park pass on his bike.  After we are safely in the park I ride two up behind Gary.

The day warms slightly.  The scudding clouds make incredible viewing along the road through Bryce.

There is one view spot where at least 20 hats are lying on the steep slopes forever because trying to retrieve them would be a death wish.  I think this was called the "New Hat Store" view point.

We drive to Rainbow Point, almost the last point, and Gary can not get away from the Texas lady.  I finally go get him but we have now lost Ron who hikes a little further along the trail.

On the way in, and in almost the same place on the way back, an antelope runs across our path in a large meadow.  We get a kick out of that "The hired entertainment".  We also see three mule deer on our way out.

The wind is strong but the sun is shining on our long ride back.  Once at the motel I wrap up in the quilt for a warming nap.  Then..a hot bath.  This hotel camping is deluxe.

Laura opts not to eat dinner out so Ron, Gary and I walk down to Houston's Restaurant (a local recommendation).

The help can not serve beer until we are seated for dinner.  We have a nice chat with several of the waitpersons while we are waiting.  They talk about sports and the rules of beer in Utah.

Ron and Gary opt for the gravy options at dinner.  I order a salad.  We are seated next to a wall with about 12 pistols in holsters hanging on it.  Our waitress says they used to wear them but then realized they were very heavy to wear all day.  Cute for a while.  Ron gets some soup for Laura and we walk back to Kanab Best Western.
